Mayweather Jr. vs. Pacquiao May 2, 2015

It’s finally happening.. who do you got your money on? Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao is set to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 2, 2015

Floyd Mayweather believes that Manny Pacquiao is desperate to make their megafight happen because the Filipino boxing champion has no choice “because he needs the money.”

Mayweather told Ben Thompson of that while he is glad to be having a fat paycheck following the much-anticipated bout, he really doesn’t need the money he would be earning from the fight unlike Pacquiao who is “forced to do things they don’t want to do.”

“And like I said before, I can retire today and I’m okay. I was very, very smart investing my money in a lot of real estate, doing business with my big tycoon buddies. The great thing about my career is I did it my way,” Mayweather said.

“A lot of guys are forced to do things that they don’t want to do. I honestly believe that, at this particular time, even if Pacquiao didn’t want to fight, he has no choice because his back is against the wall. The reason why his back is against the wall is because he needs the money. I don’t.”

This isn’t the first time that Mayweather took a dig at the finances of Pacquiao who faced tax evasion charges last year.

But the Filipino went on to win a Supreme Court ruling that avoided him paying millions of dollars in extra taxes after the Philippine government initially ruled that he owed P2.2 billion in taxes.

The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is seen to generate a record-breaking $250 million in revenues, with the undefeated American expected to get a 60-40 purse split in his favor.

This early, Forbes already projected that average ticket prices for the welterweight showdown in MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas could spike up to $3,000 which would make it the most expensive ever in history.
